Fishing Tip: Increase Your Minnow’s Fish Catching Power

Key takeaway: Hook your minnow slightly IN FRONT of the dorsal fin — not behind it like 99% of anglers do.

Get the most out of your minnow! Have you ever noticed how some minnows will swim around much longer than the others while suspended on your hook beneath the ice or under your slip bobber alongside the boat? Not all minnows (like people) are created equal. Some minnows are simply stronger than their counterparts.

The Technique

To extend the activity period and swimming range of the minnow, place the hook SLIGHTLY IN FRONT of the dorsal fin instead of what 99% of anglers do — slightly behind the dorsal fin.

Don't Forget to Check

No matter what you choose to do, check the minnow every 5–10 minutes to see if it is getting tired or sluggish. If so, replace with a fresh minnow immediately! Lotsa Fish! Lotsa Fun!
